Goals:
To modernize and redesign a 6-hour asynchronous Suicide Prevention training for graduate counseling students, enhancing accessibility, engagement, and assessment authenticity while aligning the learning experience with real-world clinical practice.
Project Description
The Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology (MCP) program requested a redesign of its asynchronous suicide prevention training, originally built from lecture recordings and static slide PDFs. The legacy version was content-heavy, minimally interactive, and contained accessibility conflicts.​​​​​​​
Collaborating with two faculty SMEs:
4Transformed assessments from multiple-choice quizzes to scenario-based reflections simulating real-world counseling encounters. Using Storyline variables, student reflections auto-generated into downloadable PDFs to bring to synchronous class discussions.
4Reconstructed video lectures by extracting and segmenting audio into short, topic-based sections.
4Developed animated Vyond videos featuring a lecturer avatar and key concept visuals for clarity and engagement.
4Redesigned the course in Articulate Storyline, organizing it into four modular units with a non-linear navigation menu and a flipped-classroom delivery strategy integrated into department courses.
4Converted PDF files to .mp3 audio files in UDOIT to support learner preferences;
4Implemented accessibility and design improvements using a customizable Storyline template to ensure visual consistency, readability, and ease of future content updates.
